Hi all,

We're up in the mountains at the mo in a little place called Mcleod Ganj. There's very little to do up here and we've been here for about 5 days so are feeling nice and relaxed!

After we wrote the last entry we went to Jaipur, the capital of Rajasthan. It was ok but a little hot and dusty (as you'd expect in India!) so we only stayed for 2 days. When we got there we hadn't eaten anything since the first day of the camel safari, for some reason the thought of food made us feel sick...that was until we stumbled across a Pizza Hut in Jaipur and that somehow cured all of our ill feelings towards food! After our cheesy feast we headed off for an afternoon of sightseeing - the City Palace, an old observatory and another palace. The next morning we went on a tour to what was supposed to be a lake palace. Well it was crap, and the tuk tuk driver insisted on taking us to visit a textiles and jewellery factory too, you'd think after 8 months of travelling we might have gotten wise to all of these things, but no! We had to wait until 3 pm to find out that we didn't have seats on the 4pm train to the mountains, which was quite annoying since we'd booked them a week before! After what seemed like an age in the train station, battling against all the pusher inners for a refund, we got on a train to Delhi. We only just made the train and the man was in a real rush to give us our tickets so didn't quite get the spelling of our names right - Guy's name on the ticket was 'Gay Pobinson'!!! It kept me laughing for hours!

When we got to Delhi we knew which guesthouse we wanted to go to, but this really irritating tout decided to follow us (so he could tell the guesthouse that he took us there and so they would've charged us more for the room and paid him a commission). Well in the end we managed to get rid of him and wandered off further down the road. Then another tout decided to try and follow us and the first one came running up and they almost had a full on fight! We used the opportunity to peg it into a nearby guesthouse and avoid paying touts for doing nothing! We couldn't be bothererd doing anything the next day cos we were totally knackered so got a night train up to the mountains, where we are now.

McLeod Ganj is where the Dalai Lama (top man of Tibetan Buddhism) led loads of Tibetans into exile when the Chinese started torturing them, and he still lives here now. It's really cold too, which has made a nice change from burning heat - having a duvet on the bed has been such a novelty! The only thing we've done of any interest was to visit the monastery where the Dalai Lama lives, the rest of the time has been filled with eating, reading and sleeping! Unfortunately we'll have to motivate ourselves to move tomorrow as we only have a week left - we're off back down to Delhi and then to the Taj Mahal!
