After two days in El Centro I was ready to find something a little more laid back and La Condesa proved to be the ideal place. Although only a 15 moniute cab ride away, La Condesa is a different world. The leafy avenues and beautifully colourful houses give the place a kind of European feel, although the earthquake damaged pavements tell you that you are, in fact, still in Mexico.
The first night was spent doing that most Mexican of things - going to the pub to stand at the bar talking about football whilst listening to a jazz band and eating bangers and mash...
La Condesa is the ideal place to be if you like to wander around. The streets, although full of life, are pleasant places to explore as nobody seems to be in a any particular rush and most people go about their everyday business with a content smile on their face.
Accomodation wise, I am staying at my good friend Mattīs flat which is ideally situated near to all the restaurants and nightlife, but far enough away for it not to get too noisy to sleep. There is a rooftop terrace on which to eat breakfast/fry my skin to lobster-red/chill out/do my washing (getting bored of that now - time to use the laundrette facilities around the corner, I think). Iīve been introduced to many of Mattīs friends here, so it is starting to feel dangerously like home...

Wednesday now. Still not got out of the big city, but have been exploring more and more of it. Had a fantastic day on Sunday checking out Coyoacan and Centro De Tlalpan in the south of the city. The polution obviously isnīt so bad down there as you could actually see the mountains that surround the city.
