Hi everyone,

Just a quick note about our last field trip and Fete de la Musique. Yesterday, we had our last morning of classes and then hopped on a bus to visit 2 Medieval Chateaux. Both of them were pretty simple, but then again, when is a chateau ever simple? They were both pretty, but their histories were not that interesting. The second one we visited--Chateau Cammarin has stayed within the same family since it was built, and some members of the family still live there! Their kids were playing with the dog in the yard when we pulled up--so weird!

When we got back, Courtney and I went out to dinner with Olivia, a French student here that we met though one of the grad students. After dinner, we headed into Centre Ville to have a drink and enjoy Fete de la Musique. Olivia said that we had to try "Kir," which is the local specialty. It's white wine mixed with Creme de Cassis liqueor. I hate wine, but this wasn't too awful, plus it was fun to sit in a cafe/brasserie. Fete de la Musique was fun...not as scandalous as the last time I was here. (I went in Paris when I was in high school.) About every 30 feet or so, there is a different band that has just set up on the sidewalk. It's a really great atmosphere since everyone, from teenagers to older couples to whole families, comes out to listen and to celebrate summer. But, most of the bands are teenager wanna-bes, so the music isn't that great, and by midnight, I was ready to get out of the crowds.

We don't have class today, so I'm just relaxing before we leave for Brussels tomorrow morning. This afternoon, we're going shopping with Olivia. Hopefully, I'll find some fun stuff!

XOXO
Kate
