Park Hotel Grilli

Sitting at breakfast at my accomodation, Park Hotel Grilli.  I am the first Australian to stay here and the staff have been very nice.  The price is right too - Euro$65 for the 2 nights including all meals - BARGIN.  Taking it quietly as I feel not 100%, just a mixture of nerves, jet lag and 'where am I and where do I go next' I suspect.

My first big ride is tomorrow, Nove Colli - 200k's, 3900m of climbing and 11,000 people.  Should be amazing.  The weather looks like it will be ok, forecast is to be cloudy and 27 degrees, those of you in Mlebourne should just remember that temperature - HA.

Glad I got a diesel car to drive around, as I put in 26 litres yesterday at a cost of Euro$39 (about AUS$60) That was for about 380k's so fairly economical, I can hear my father laughing right now as I have never been so fuel efficient in my life!  Amazing driving throught the hills driving from Targiano to Cesenartico, elevated from the valley floor by bridges for miles on end.  You might notice in the road photo if I remember to included it that there is no verge to the roads - don't break down!  Still to get used to the tunnels too, the longest so far being 2.8k's.  I am never quick enough to get my sunnies off and put on normal glasses so I sit there trying to look cool as I can't 'look' at anything.

Today (Sabato 17th) is ride registration and chilling out, Giro d'Italia is on TV every afternoon live for about 3 hours, so times I wish there were english subtitles but watching the racing live is quite a thrill.  Yesterdays stage saw Di Luca attack with Ricco and then Contador straight on his wheel, shortly after they had a closeup of Di Luca's face and it looked like his was literally gong to explode with the effort.

Highlight of the trip so far: Uno Espresso for a dollar!
