Today I went to Hoover Dam and decided to take the tour.
The tour starts out with a short documentary about how the damn was built and the men who built it.
The tour then continues with a Dam guide. They take you below to where the 30 foot wide pipes that can transport nearly 90,000 gallons of water each second from Lake Mead to the hydroelectric generators in the powerhouse. They have you in a enclosed room with glass for viewing the pipes and you can actually feel the vibration of the water under your feet.
The next stop is one floor up to the actual power plant, where the generators are. They were massive in size but interesting to see.
Next stop was the observation deck. From there you are able to get some decent shots of the Dam and Colorado river. Don't look over if you have a fear of heights.
The last part of the tour was at the Exhibit Gallery. These exhibits highlight some of the natural history of the region and present a picture of how Hoover Dam was constructed and how it presently operates.
I will be going to Arizona from here and will take a couple of days of much needed rest. It's possible I might not post a few days unless you all want to hear about me doing laundry again.
