1.       February 13, 2013 -  We left Stephanie's house in Swansboro and headed south on route 17.  It took us about three hours before we reached Myrtle Beach and found the state park.  We have stayed at Huntington Beach before but have not been to the state park in Myrtle Beach in many years.  This park is beautiful and the drive into it is stunning -typical South Carolina with the Palm Trees along the road.  Arrived around 2 in the afternoon and biked around the campground and on the beach at low tide.  We also walked around the campground and rode our bikes on the walking boardwalks which we would not be able to do later in the spring.

They predicted rain today but we were lucky and it was only misty and then the sun came out.  Now George and I feel we are really camping on the beach with palm trees swaying in  the wind.

Review of campground:

Wednesday, Feb 13, 2013:  Myrtle Beach State Park, Myrtle Beach, SC   This park can be a little difficult to find with all the construction going on but it is a beautiful place.  $23 a night with water and electricity.  It is located right on the Grand Strand and is a very popular campground,  reservations are needed – even now two loops were filled.  There is a campground, cabins, beach, fishing pier, nature center  and playgrounds throughout the park and it is a great place to ride bikes.  It is near everything on the strip yet it is very peaceful  and beautiful.  One can ride their bikes before May 1 and after Labor Day right on the beach during low tide.  Sites are shaded in five loops but are not that private.  Nice campground!

Hi Karen,
I'm enjoying the details of your trip! Sounds like you're having a great time. At least you've missed the 30 inches of snow that have graced this area. Can't complain thiough, we kept power and it's been nice and al,most mild all week, which makes for a lot of slow, steady melting. Have fun! Lois
