We stayed in Topeka last night and then started train investigating this morning. We started with the Great Overland UP Station which is now being turned into a historic building, model railroad, and rail car museum. Plus we got in a little UP train watching (in the fog) while walking around the area.
We tried visiting the Kansas Historical Society but Mondays are the "closed" day for them like many museums.
We then found the BNSF (ex-ATSF) Topeka Shops and Yards (don't forget that ATSF stands for the Atchison, Topeka, and the Santa Fe). The shops/yard is big and interesting but hard to really see well from the outside -- fun to see all of the locomotives and other equipment.
