We left HK on Thursday evening after picking up our Vietnamese Visas. But we only got as far as Guangzhou...and industrial city north of Hong Kong - back on Mainland China. So needless to say there were more immigration stops and custom checks. it was a bit of a stranger experience this time as there was a baggage check belt in the middle of a hall...andsome people opted to put their bags through and others just walked on by.

We didn't really intend to stay here for a night at all. But I misread the train timetable and we didn't realise until we were on the train to Guangzhou that our train to the Vietnamese border didn't actually leave until the following morning.

We stayed in a hotel we spotted in the magazine on the train ( not sure if I mentioned this, but some of the trains in China are like airplanes... with TVs, fancy leather seats, magazines - that nobody but us seemed to steal!) Anyway there was an offer for a room for Y150 which is about €15 for train passengers....great deal. Although we went on and splashed out on a fancy italian restaurant at twice the price of the room..ah well we were weary travellers and it turned out we wouldn't really have eaten properly again until saturday night :o)

We had two single beds. Hard as rock. I found out the unfortunate way by jumping onto it as soon as I got into the room.  Let's just say I didn't bounce.
