My last days in Malaysia were spent relaxing at Mika's place in Johor and visiting Kuantan or better Balok. Kuantan is the capital of the Pahang State. So far, it still offers unspoiled beaches as far as the eye can see. In Balok, I stayed with Kong, an HC member, who runs a kite surfing business. Now, his business is rather quit due to the lack of wind. But coming November, he will be busy teaching kite surfing to locals and tourists. Kong's house is right at the beach and we went swimming in the morning and in the evening, for hours......In Balok, I visited the Natural Batik Village where I watched the workers preparing and painting batik. I also took a short painting course and produced my first small batik masterwork (see picture). This was the easy part as the cloth is stamped with a waxed pattern and all I had to do is paint it. Next time, I would like to take a two day course where I actually learn how to use the wax and do my own drawings. Looking back now, i wished i would have taken the 4 day batik making courses offered in Indonesia. The most famous batik area in Malaysia is Kuala Terengganu, north of Pahang State. I also went o visit small and laid back Cherating.

It was great hanging out with Kong, we went to the night market where we sampled a variety of food, ate at his favorite restaurant which is managed by a Thai family. Here, I ate Latna (sp?) which is absolutely delicious. We also met Ong, who came by to learn about kite surfing and who took lost of pictures the day we went out and tried to coax the wind into cooperating with us. Kong got the kite up but it didn't stay up too long and we could not surf or buggy with the kite. So, I have to go back and visit again in December when there is more wind.

This pretty much sums up my last view days in Malaysia. Next stop is Hong Kong and from there off to China.
