Darren was able to visit and mountain bike his so-called 'Golden Triangle of Mountain Biking' as we spent a week traveling to Fruita, Moab, and Durango. Fruita consisted of biking a portion of the Kokopelli Trail that features some rocky singletrack above the Colorado River. The best part of the ride was jumping into the cool Colorado River after riding over a dozen miles in near 100 degree heat.
Next up was mountain biking mecca of Moab. Slickrock Trail in Moab is Darren's favorite mountain biking trail in the world. The grip that the tires get on the sandstone makes you feel like Superman on a bike. He also biked Porcupine Rim Trail the next day but was not as impressed but it was still a great trail.
Durango may be the coolest little town we visited during our time in the western U.S. We had met some folks down in Sayulita, Mexico that lived in Durango so they had invited us by. John (the husband) was a pretty serious mountain biker so he was able to take Darren out and show him the best rides from a local's perspective. From a cumulative standpoint, Durango seemed to have better trails than the fabled Moab.
