Out Of Rio
The group leaves the Argentina Hotel at about 8am. We are greeted by a massive luxury coach. I look on impressed. Then our guide walks behind the coach to a less luxurious looking Dragoman over-lander vehicle.
It is however quite homely when I get inside. For the next 113 days this is my home away from home, a big orange truck. I think I may be a little mad.
As you head out of Rio the energy of the city leaves a trail behind it. As we spiral up into the Brazilian hills it eventually disappears.
Itīs quite rural up here with favelas springing up everywhere as though engraved into the hills. The sun is on my bones and the wind is in my hair. I feel ridiculously relaxed. We creep through densely forested hills to reach clearings which reveal little pockets of heaven.
Vast lakes rest between the hills. Azure crystalline waters are trimmed by golden shores. The roadsides are dotted with locals walking barefoot, donkey drawn carriages and the odd got tied to a tree we are definetely out of Rio.
