In need of a Brazilian (visa) I am moving south to Cuenca to get it here. After doing a lot in Banos, a day of travel was much more chilled. It was pretty foggy on the drive, so didn't get a good look at the ash coming out from the Tungurahua volcano above Banos. Cuenca has a cute old town and the hostel/ hotel is very homely, recently renovated with great internal space. I ended up at a cafe in the city centre and after reading about the history of the Incas and Nascas, chatted to a couple who lived here as translators.
He was English and she was a local. It was good that we had the whole conversation in Spanish. A sweet couple who I may meet up with later. I am listening to intermediare and advanced Spanish podcast lessons, a great way to learn though it makes the bus rides more intense.
The next dat was rhe first day of less "efficient" travel, I had a huge exercise of sorting out flights and the visa to Brazil. It's still not finalized as I sent off my visa but in typical bureaucracy it's going to take longer than they usually do, and a total change of plans to stay in Ecuador rather than head down to Peru. All good, a morning of fun but should be a lot of fun with the travels to Sao Paulo for New Years! :-)
After visiting a few travel agencies and trying to work out a plan, I will go to a surf town called Montenita and grab a board for the mornings and do some kite surfing for the evenings. For Xmas I will fly to the jungle in the north of the country.
