A full day on the local buses, including a border crossing, and we reached the remote town of Sierpe, in the south west of Costa Rica and not far from the Pacific Ocean. The only reason for our stay in Sierpe was to board the boat early the next morning for Drake Bay, around 45mins by boat from Sierpe, and home to the Corcovado National Park.
One interesting story from our brief stay in Sierpe was meeting Walter, a Colombian ex-pat who was taking a sabatical from his wife and kids and ''finding himself' while working in a tourist shop in town. Walter was very hospitable, inviting us to have some drinks with him and to stay at his house on our return from Drake Bay. Among other things, he told us about the secret Colombian government project to build a tunnel to Europe which will reduce the journey to only 6 hours by car. We didn't have the heart to tell him it sounded completely impossible.
