Day 9, Saturday April 10,2010 Tallahassee, FL to Tampa, FL

Greg's Version:

The trip from Tallahassee to Tampa was more or less an uneventful drive. I-10 East to I-75 then south to Tampa. I-75 South was a breeze; I was the slowest car on the road and I was driving the speed limit.  I-75 North was another story.  It was stopped for miles as the Snowbirds headed home for the summer.  Why they all decided to leave on Saturday is a mystery.

The fun began as we drove into Tampa.  The GPS told us to keep left onto SR-60 but SR-60 went right.  A quick turn around and we were back on the right road but the freeways around Tampa Airport are a maze.  It took me three tries to understand how the interchanges worked.  The second time was a quick trip to the Post Office to send off all the stuff we bought since we left California.  After that I decided that I did not want to drive anymore that day.

I went on-line to check out restaurants around the hotel.  The closest was Bahama Breeze but the reviews were not very good.  I checked a couple of other places and they had bad reviews too.  So we asked the hotel clerk.  He told us that probably half the hotel guests eat at least once at Bahama Breeze and that the bad reviews are written in the peak season when the wait is as much as two hours.  That was good enough for us.  A short walk to put our name on the list and we found a seat at the outdoor bar.  The bartender was happy to let us sit there and wait for our table but we decided to order something to drink. Mmmmm the Pina Colada was so good that I had to keep myself from drinking it too fast.  After dinner it was off to bed because I want to explore St. Petersburg tomorrow.

Mary's Version

We got to our hotel (where we are now on Sunday), at around three o'clock.  Our GPS had misinformed us, and had taken us across the highway from where we were supposed to be, but despite the thing, we found the hotel.  We just relaxed and caught up on some e-mail and blogs, and decided to do the wash Sunday.  (Today).  Around five-thirty, we decided to go to the restaurant next door to eat.  Walking distance after having traveled by car for days, and then a half-day is a good thing.  So was the food.  I had pork loin with melted cheese and spinach on top, with yummy mashed potatoes.  Greg had pork ribs, which also looked good.  Before our meal, Greg had a pina colada, and I had a strawberry daiquiri.  Afterwards, we shared a banana dessert, with bananas, banana bread, and a brandy caramel topping!  More yummy!  Oh, and we did find that post office, and mailed some things to Heather.  I guess we'd better tell her one of these days, :-)

According to both the weather channel and weather.com, it was supposed to rain here in Tampa on Sunday.
