Where I stayed
Day 8 April 9, 2010 Pensacola, FL to Tallahassee, FL
Greg's version:
From the hotel in Pensacola I drove to US-98 expecting to spend the day driving along the coast like we did in Mississippi. Unfortunately, in Florida beach front property is private property most of the time so we saw very little of the Gulf. It is drives like this that make me appreciate the wisdom of Californians to pass Proposition 20 making the coast public property. We stopped at several gift shops but found very little to buy.
We stopped an a couple of promising looking places to buy souvenirs but were disappointed because all they carried were t-shirts and swimming suits. The only saving grace was in Panama City where the tourist trap was across the highway from a Starbucks. That held us until we could find lunch in Apalachicola, FL
While eating lunch we realized that we had crossed into the Eastern Time Zone. When I asked our waitress where the time changed she pointed to the bridge on the west side of town and said that when we crossed the bridge we changed time zones.
We tried to mail stuff home from the local post office but it was so small that they did not have any shipping materials. Some time we need to stop at a Post Office and ship a bunch of stuff home to make room in the car for more stuff.
Tallahassee is our stop for the night.
Mary's Version
I remember also that it took us a long time to find somewhere to eat. I forget the name of the place, but we turned into a small shopping center, and a cute seafood place was just at the edge of a marina dock. Greg had shrimp and fries, and hush puppies, (ground corn, mixed with seasonings and rolled into a ball and fried). I had a burger and fries, :-)
We just had dinner again, and did some more on our blogs, and then went to bed. On to Tampa!
