Driven Sunday: 430 km

Driven to date: 5859 km

Greg and I have spent the last three days in Lake Havasu City in western Arizona. To get here we drove over another mountain range (elevation approximately 2200m). We could see ski slopes in the mountains but no snow.

Lake Havasu City is a fairly new town, established in 1978 on the eastern side of Lake Havasu. It is a tourist destination, particularly for snowbirds. Activities center on the lake with any conceivable water related activity available here for rent from paddleboards to cigar boats. We thought we saw a kayaker but it turned out to be a hybrid kayak-paddleboat, something we had never seen before. The kayaker can use a kayak paddle and/or pedal power.

Lake Havasu is the site of the London Bridge that was taken apart in London, England and re-assembled here in 1971. The bridge cost $2.5 million and then another $2.5 million to put it in place. It has become a tourist attraction here, complete with an area modeled after a small English village.

Nice spot - a British oasis in the middle of an American desert!
