Midday temp. 35C

We are certainly in southern California now, the temperature increased steadily until mid afternoon as we travelled south. And the number of palm trees has also increased.

Our first stop today was in the town of Pismo Beach. We stopped there to see the beach, and what an incredible beach it is, stretching for miles and miles. There wasn't very much surf today, the ocean was quite calm. We continued along the Pacific Coast Highway which parallels the Sierra Madre Mountain Range. At times we were in the valley and saw huge tracts of farmland planted with grape vines, citrus trees, strawberries, and other fruits and vegetables. There’s any amazing diversity of crops, even large garden nurseries filled with trees and bushes. We stopped at a small farm market and bought some vegetables and strawberries. At home I don’t buy California strawberries but I wanted to try them fresh from the farm. They were delicious; so sweet and juicy. What a difference when the strawberry hasn’t travelled across the continent.

At one point during our drive today we drove by an RV park that stretched along the beach for quite a ways. The RVs were camped along a narrow road that ran alongside the beach. Now that’s my type of campground!

Our campground tonight is in Castaic, a small community about 35 minutes away from Los Angeles. We’ll be here for three nights while we explore the Los Angeles area during the day.

Laura on

Wasn't Pismo Beach where Daffy Duck and Bugs Bunny were trying to get to in that Looney Toons movie that we had at home? I think it was something about all the clams that you could eat...
Did you see them? Or all the clams they were talking about?? =)
Love you guys, miss you lots

Karen and Greg this looks all so unbelievable to me. How does it seem to you? And they say cartoons are a waste of time and nothing to learn from them!
Love
