Today was our trip to Greve and San Gimigiano. Greve had a lot of places to go shopping. It was similar to the open market in Florence. I was able to get some nice gifts for my people back home and of course I did some shopping for myself. I mean thats what women do when there are clothes, shoes, and accessories for sale right? And after shopping, came the eating. Dr Tyson and other professors in the institute had been bragging on this sandwich called a porquetta. They keep talking about how great it is so I decided to try it out for myself. The porquetta sandwich is like bbq, except its a boar (see pic)
It may not sound good but let me be the first to say that it was AMAZING. IT was seasoned just right and I topped it off with a side of fries. Their fries are much better here than in the United States. I didnt even have to use ketchup., which is a surprise to me for sure. There was also a wine cellar where you could sample all types of wines and champaignes. If you are into wine, I would recommend this place if you are ever in Tuscany. After shopping and good eating, we travelled through the Chiante region to get to San Giminano. THe views were incredible. You could see the different dimensions of the hillside and the fields where the grapes are grown to make the chiante wine that is so popular in Greve and the Chiante region. In San Giminanjo, we did more shopping of course. We also toured the torture museum. It sounded crazy to me at first but it was actually interesting. THe museum housed several instruments that were used hundreds of years ago as punishments to the people. I will post pictures of some of the gadgets. I saw things like the gas chamber, electric chair, guiottine, posinous liquids, etc. The crazy part of the museums was not the gadgets, but the fact that some of the instruments are still being used today in some countries.
