. After we talked about mental health for some time, She taught me a little of the italian language and informed me of some of the rules that most first time visitors would not know. Then she told me about how you have to purchase your items first and then show your receipt to get the item. We arrived in Rome at 9 am and then made the 3 hour drive to Reggello. We are now settled into the villa at Casa Cares. The views are incredible. We are going to have introductions and then dinner at 7pm. Everyone is still getting acquainted with one another. I think jet lag is starting to settle in. Good thing we have our adrenaline from excitement of finally arriving to keep us going. Tomorrow the institute officially begins and we will begin learning about the counseling professioin Italy!
We left the United States at 6:30 pm and arrived in Rome to meet other participants at 9:30 am. Sleeping was hard for me on the plane so I had plenty of time getting to know my neighbor. She was an Italian American female who is a professor in Arizona. She will be in Italy for 3 months teaching the Italian language to American students. I told her that I was studying counseling in Italy and she was shocked to say the least. She talked about how doctors in Italy believe that women over-exaggerate their symptoms so it is unlikely that Italian women will get medical treatment for illnesses like migraines. This was a personal experience for her. She suffers migraines and was told that her pain was all in her head. She then told me about her experiences with the school system in America and how she had to put her son in private school because he suffers from a severe anxiety disorder. The lack of counseling services in Italy was the reason why she moved to America. Her son was unable to attend school without having special assistance
