Before flying to Cyprus in March I asked some friends in Cyprus to suggest one or two villages which would be really interesting for me to visit. One of the villages they suggested was Lofou and I am glad that I have friends who know me well and knew exactly what I was after.

I want the places that I visit to be interesting, and I love walking in places that take me back to another era, peaceful and beautiful. My friend Aki was sure that I would love coming to this village and he even suggested the hotel I should book.

As we were approaching the village from a distance I felt that I was coming to the right place. It was sure that I would love exploring this village out here. It is a cloudy Sunday and I am amazed to see all these crowds of people scattered in the cobbled stone lanes walking and enjoying this beautiful rainy day.

I wish to thank my friend Aki for his help….he even drove me out here himself even if he had guests at his hotel, and here I am in a village which is in the heart of the wine making region and widely regarded as one of the most enchanting and unspoiled villages in Cyprus.

Lofou is listed by UNESCO as an architecturally important village, and even if it was abandoned in the past, the villagers are returning and restoring the homes ….but the most important is that they are keeping with their original character.

I did not do much of a walking the very first day, as I wanted to enjoy the hotel I was staying at which was really beautiful. The next day though I was walking for at least 4 hours. With a labyrinth of cobbled stone lanes, traffic free streets to explore, and ruins sitting comfortably alongside renovated homes; the village gives a feeling of timelessness and wonder. The peace and tranquillity found here makes it an ideal destination for those wishing to escape the pressure of modern life. – An ideal place for me!!!

Limassol is just a 20' drive and if you go on the opposite direction towards the mountains you will find yourself high in the Troodos range with forest walks, waterfalls, and even skiing- Besides I was there a few days back. I thank my friend that he suggested this place for me to come and rest.
