Michalis Mozoras is an artist living in Kalavasos.

The sign on his door - 'Art Gallery' urges me to enter the gate and get inside.

An hour back as I was walking in the upper neighbourhood my eyes caught sight of his garden but I could not make out from the distance why would a person collect all those pebbles in a yard.

Now I am here and I understand why.

As I enter the gate I see all kinds of pebbles of different shapes and colour scattered throughout the garden and as I move further in I see more and more pieces of art.

I am amazed with all this. I consider myself lucky to have met him. I introduce myself and tell him how I marvel at his work. We are chatting for more than 45 minutes, and he tells me that very soon he is having an exhibition. Seeing that I am so fond of his work he decides to show me more pieces, those which are to be exhibited soon in an art gallery.  I am among angels, and strange shapes on pebbles, and wood. The main theme is Angels, but also Motherhood.  It is incredible!

We come out in the garden again and he takes me to his workshop which in reality it is outside in the open yard. He shows me how he chisels out the different pebbles and how they are given their shape.

I am telling him how much I love the Cypriot tradition, and that I very often travel to the island. His love on the Cypriot tradition is obvious too and he gives me the impression that he is a person of multiple talents.

Suddenly  he tells me that he is a composer and a singer as well.

I tell him that I love Cypriot traditional songs with the heavy Cypriot accent and he disappears for seconds and comes back with an original copy of his CD. It is called " Stis akres tis psichis mu" …in English I could translate it as “the tips of my soul”.  From the title and picture on the CD of another angel, I understand that Michalis is a very sensitive person. As I hold the CD in my hands I read the name of another well known singer. He is Michalis Terlikkas, and I had the chance last year to exchange one or two e mails with him. He sings only traditional Cypriot songs and he has a very strong and authentic voice. He contributes on this CD with one song called “me ta ftera tou nou mou” in English ‘with the wings of my mind’.

I believe this visit to the art gallery of Michalis was indeed very interesting and I urge people who happen to go to Kalavasos to step by, meet Michalis and see his work of art.

Lovely visit. I enjoyed every day. I was moved by the story of the Cypriot liberation. Hopefully we were a bit kinder than the Turks! I've taken the liberty of adding you to my address list so you'll get all my future Travel Blogs.
