The Roots of the Cypriot Wine - Video
Trip Start Mar 03, 2010
143Trip End Feb 06, 2011
Winemaking in Cyprus is one of the oldest worldwide. The production of wine goes back to some 6000 years. Studies indicate that grape varieties of the island are some of the oldest in the world.
I plan to visit the wine museum on my next trip which is at the village of Erimi at the outskirts of Limassol. Pots have been unearthed some of which used for wine the period between 3.500 and 3.000 B.C.
Unique ancient mosaics portraying god Dionysus (Bacchus) are found at the villages I am now visiting –Lania and Omodos.
There are more than 40 wineries in this region in the slopes of the Troodos producing very good quality of wine.
While searching the net to see where to go next I found a very informative video that I got from the Cyprus Tourist Organization and I wish to share with you who read my entries so that you get the real Cypriot feeling of what I am talking about
Be a little patient with the video until it uploads. You have time to get a glass of wine, sit comfortably and watch it….imagining you are out there with these people!
If it was not worth it I would not have included it in my entries. It is a video I don't want to lose.
I expect comments from you as well.
So hold up your glass of wine, and cheers to you and all !
