Aghios Minas Convent
After our short brake at the farm house we are in the car again driving towards the
Convent of St. Minas which is solely run by nuns.
Gabriel tells me that we should avoid possible stops because the entrance
gates will be closed to visitors at lunch time.
So…. we are in a hurry to reach before this happens, and finally we make it.
A few minutes after we enter the gates I notice a nun walking towards the entrance.
The gates are closed at 12:00 sharp for lunch until 2:00 pm.
This monastery is very popular on the island because it is a 15th century convent.
It is in a short distance to the south west from Lefkara and very near the village of Kato Drys.
Inisde the convent visitors are not allowed to take photos. I usually obey, but
the icons in the church were really so beautiful that I could not resist the very last moment.
I could have taken much better photos and even have one photo showing the iconostasis but
I thought to respect that. The very last moment when I saw the icon on the wall of St. Minas
and Saint George I found it hard to resist. So, here I have included these two icons
in my entry. (I did not use a flash anyway).
Besides performing their religious rites the nuns living here produce honey, fruit preserves and also paint
beautiful icons which they sell as well. A small shop in the monastery offers the visitor the
opportunity to purchase these products.
I thank Gabriel who makes this visit possible to me because I kept reading about this convent
for years but each time I was somewhere else.

Hi Popi, its good that you have finally visited this long awaited place. I can understand when you said that despite the restriction, you could not resist taking photographs. I have been in that situation many times. Happy Traveling and thank you for giving us such informative blogs.
