I heard the word "Agrotourism" a year back, and in March when I was in Cyprus again I had the chance to visit one such complex. As a person who has so many good memories of the past I immediately fell in love with the whole idea and decided to start discovering little by little this kind of tourism. For me it feels that I am discovering the real heart and soul of the island I was born and brought up.
I left Cyprus in March with a small booklet with all the Agrotourism complexes spotted in more than 500 little villages, and scattered all over Cyprus. I return to the island now and really want to spend some days in one or two villages that are not so known to tourists. Tochni is one of them.
Some friends and one or two relatives are wondering why I speak so highly of this place and the Agrotourism programme. I even invite one or two to share these moments with me up in Tochni, but everybody seems to be busy and finally I come here on my own.
Tochni is situated in the depth of the countyside between Limassol and Larnaca. It is November but still very hot in Larnaca, and I am really happy that I will spend 3 nights out here. I arrived here late last night and I was longing for this moment this morning, to peep through the window anxious to see what there is to see. I was left at the small but so cosy restaurant of the village just opposite the Church. From the very first moment I am welcomed by some locals, and I am told that the person who was expecting me had just left.
The owner takes the trouble of calling the man and in a few minutes I am shown up to my apartment. The restaurant was really full of happy people enjoying their dinner. I noticed a number of tourists sitting among locals and my first impressions are positive.

I am excited with my apartment, I have the best views, and in my little kitchen the owner of the house – Athina, took the trouble of buying for me biscuits and bread and some cheese for my breakfast. There are ample of tea and coffee bags left for me on the kitchen table. The small basket has some fruit as well, and all these are really more than enough. Oh yes! There is a bottle of mineral water in the fridge too.
I prepare my coffee, and instead of sitting at the table I move all around the apartment with the cup in my hand. I notice every single detail in the interior decoration and I know for sure that I have come to the right place.
Athina suggested that I come one day earlier, and join the group of people who are all coming from the Netherlands. I am even invited to attend the dinner party that is going to take place tomorrow evening, and she suggests that I go and meet the people from the Cyprus Tourist Organization. I appreciate all this because I had no idea that there would be so many people arriving later tonight in this little village. Of course I will have to arrange all this later on, or probably tomorrow morning, but now what I have to do is get ready to leave my apartment for a tour around the village, meet and talk with locals, and take the photos I want.
So, who wants to come along?
