TIPS FOR A BUDGET STAY IN CYPRUS

Although Cyprus is the perfect destination for all seasons round, yet it is not a cheap destination so I thought of making a list as to how a guest can both enjoy his holidays but at the same time not fall in the different traps especially if it is a budget holiday.

DO WHAT THE LOCALS DO

Holidays here is certainly more expensive than it used to be, but if you do as the locals do, you can still find excellent value. This is perhaps most striking if you are on a self-catering holiday, and you SHOP WITH LOCALS – rather than at beachfront supermarkets aimed at tourists.

Fresh local seasonal fruit will often cost a euro or two a kilo or less. A kilo of stewing PORK can be as little as 3 euro.

Cypriot WINE costs from about 1.70 a litre.
Pay triple that, and you will enjoy a thoroughly decent tipple.

WHEN AT A RESTAURANT

Avoid ordering bottled wine.  Ask for a carafe instead.

Bottled wine usually costs more than 10 euros, so you can enjoy a carafe instead. Besides, Cyprus is very popular for its good wine.

Also, if you want to order a Meze don't order meze for all the members.

There is so much coming in, that it is really too much.  If you are 3 persons, ask meze for two. (Usually it is more than 15 different small plates)!!!

BE CAREFUL WITH TAXI DRIVERS

Be sure to tell the taxi driver where exactly you wish to be driven.

Be specific, and make a deal before setting off.  Be sure of what you are supposed to pay him.

Prefer the taxis with 6 or 7 other persons instead of picking a private taxi if you want to travel from one city to the other if you want to save money.

Taxis are quite expensive in Cyprus if you want to move around privately.

PLANNING VISITING CYPRUS THIS SUMMER?

Cyprus is a very beautiful and romantic place to take a vacation.  It is warm there most of the time so you can plan to spend your days engaging in various activities at the beach.  If you love going to the beach, Cyprus is the place for you.

If you prefer a more SEDATE vacation, you can spend your days walking on the beach, fishing or any number of relaxing pursuits. No matter what you prefer, if your vacation should include warm sunny beaches Cyprus is for you!

You can spend your time surfing, swimming, boating, sailing, or any other water sport you enjoy.

To ensure you get the most out of your trip to Cyprus though,  you need to plan for it well in advance. You will SAVE plenty of money on your vacation if you go in the off season.  However you may find that the weather isn't the best during that period of time.  If you want to spend a good deal of your vacation at the beach then this isn’t a good option.

DON'T FORGET YOUR PASSPORT OR VISA
You will need to have a passport or a visa in order to go to Cyprus.  If however you are in Greece you can just show your identity card.

Make sure you take care of this well in advance of making your travel arrangements.  You won’t be allowed to enter the country without the proper documentation.  It is a good idea to carry a duplicate of your confirmation numbers, and phone numbers just in case you lose your originals.

TIPS ON WHAT TO PACK
Make sure you plan for weather as well because you will need plenty of sunscreen in this country.  Pack plenty of loose fitting and light pieces of clothing for the daytime.
Many people forget to pack a sweater to stay warm on those cooler evenings as it tends to cool off a bit. Pack both casual clothes - for a restaurant, and something dressier for a night out on the town.
Don’t forget your beach clothes!!!
Be prepared for a variety of weather conditions and you can be sure you are prepared for a great vacation!

TAKE ALONG YOUR  E111 CARD
If you are a European Union citizen traveling to the island, then make sure that you pack your E111 card – this will save you from having to pay for any medical treatment that you might need while you are on the island.

USE THE RURAL BUSES TO MOVE
If you are for a short time and you are on a budget, you can move to different places by the local buses.  The service is not so good but in summer they are more frequent.

FREE INTERNET ACCESS
The majority of Restaurants and Cafes in the Palm Tree Avenue (Finikoudes) have free internet access.  So it is no need to pay so much from your hotel rooms.
Have a cup of coffee or a glass of wine and do your work in beautiful surroundings.
