Tips and Information
This resort place here has many names.
It is variously called Caleta de Fuste, Caleta, El Castillo (because of the 17th century fortification) and most recently Costa Caleta.
Many people who are traveling to Fuerteventura might get a bit confused.
I remember when I was trying to find a place to book and was checking the sites, I found many similar names thinking that it was a different nearby place
This resort here was created around the original cove, because this offered a safe sheltered environment for beach activities.
Caleta is Spanish for cove and a fuste is a type of fishing boat, so this is how it got its name.
Caleta de Fuste will probably interest golf players, as there are golf courses here.
Caleta de Fuste has 21 taxis . One cannot book a taxi in advance, but taxis arrive within 10 minutes of being called.
Bus No. 3 can easily and cheaper take you to the capital which is Puerto Del Rosario in 20 minutes.
The large beach at Caleta de Fuste has been created from pale golden sand, that was brought in especially for the purpose. It looks good and the beach at Caleta remains relatively intact.
Further beaches have been created parallel to some hotels and the commercial centre. These were made by creating lagoons where there was once solid rock, and then importing sand for the beach. These beaches are generally calm, and they are conveniently placed for a quick sunbathe when one is in the centre and has to do some shopping. These other nearby beaches are found to the south of the original part of Caleta.
