The Monastery of Zoodochos Pigi or Kotsika.
This monastery took its name in rememberance of the vision of a monk from New Ephesus who around 1730 saw in his sleep an con of the Virgin Mary at the roots of a cedar tree (in the local dialect the cedar is called ' kotsika').
When he dug up the roots he actually found the icon and he gradually built a complete monastery around the old church.
The Monastery is surrounded by tall pine trees and cypress trees and there is a wonderful pine forest behind the grounds.
At the foot of the Monastery lies the beach of Mourtia. Covered with greenery, it is perfect for solitary swimming.
