My Accommodation at Vouni

Well here I am outside the main entrance of the lodge.

I pull the sliding bolt of the main entrance door which is unlocked and enter the beautiful garden.

There are three apartments in all. The apartment I booked is the "Vasilika" and it is one of the two apartments on the ground floor and I am supposed to find the key somewhere.

Well, yes it is left for me on the entrance door of the apartment and it seems that there is nobody around. Even the guests who stay in the other two apartments are out.

The president of the village is a relative of the owner and has come earlier and left the key on the door for me.

It is amazing how keys can still be left outside doors without running the danger of braking in.

Wow! The key is huge and weighs a lot.

A thought crosses my mind when I get hold of it…

"How on earth shall I carry all this weight when I am out"!

I remember of how life used to be in Cyprus and Greece much before the European borders were open. We used to keep our doors unlocked, we would go out for hours and nobody would get in the house to steal. We trusted each other and life was so much nicer.  We would sleep out in our gardens under the shade of trees or in the open air under the sky looking at the stars without being afraid that somebody might come to ask for our money or kill us. We would leave the windows of our car wide open, the keys on the engine and the car would remain untouched.

All this is a past now. It is just a nice memory of the older to remember.  Life was simpler those days and everyone was much happier than today. How much I really long for those beautiful days!!

I unlock the wooden door and I come across a very beautiful traditional country-house. It is just as I expected it to be. It has every comfort and it is nicely decorated giving a feeling that the owners still live in it and I am their guest. It is more than a traditional apartment in reality!

The time I am writing this entry, my review on TripAdvisor is still pending, but I have the review below for members who are planning visiting this place to read it.

Traditional Accomodation, Tranquillity, and Local Authentic Cuisine.

I wanted to include one or two Traditional Country Houses in my Guides on this trip to Cyprus and decided to book at Vouni Lodge. I read that the village is small and very picturesque with beautiful cobblestone alleys that made me curious to visit for some photos. I always urge people visiting Cyprus to spend at least two or three days in Agro Hotels or Country Houses because here they can find the Authentic Cypriot, the Cypriot culture and taste the island's warm hospitality of locals.

The house “Vouni Lodge” is right at the entrance of the village. It is a two storey stone house built more than 200 years ago.  Mrs. Helen Diomidous who is the owner has restored the building to its original splendour. I had one of the three separate one-bedroom apartments -the Vasilika which consisted of a separate bedroom apartment that can take 2 more persons (children mostly) in the large sitting area.

It is fully equipped with all the necessary amenities. The apartments are ideal for both summer and winter because they have central heating, a fire place and air conditioning.

The village is nestled in the foothills of the Troodos range in the heart of the wine region. I loved my strolls in the picturesque village with the quaint cobble-stone streets, the traditional old houses many of which date back to Venetian times, -houses with archways and courtyards full of colourful flowers with stunning scenery all around. It is an ideal little village to come to, especially for people who are after a tranquil holiday to rest on the large terrace, to have breakfast under the olive tree of the garden in the morning sunshine and enjoy the view over the village and the mountains around.
