Ambling round the Narrow Cobble-stone Alleys of Pano Lefkara

I have visited Lefkara again and again and each time I discover that there are still neighborhoods that I have not seen. It is not only the lace and silverware that makes it popular but its unique Architecture.

I don't plan to comment much on this entry but let you unwind and amble around with me through pictures, to some of its most beautiful narrow winding and cobble stoned alleys.

Beautiful balconies decorated with colorful flowers. One such is the house opposite the hotel I am staying, a bit different from the others but still very attractive, beautiful and weird. You might think "Why weird"!

Well, on every trip I see doors and windows widely closed but it does not seem a forlorn house. On the contrary it is very well looked after.  This time I am determined to meet the owners if I can.  My stroll is about to finish and I am ready to get to the hotel when a lady tells me that this property belongs to a Chinese who is married to a Cypriot lady.

Ok… I got the message and the first clue.  I try the back door of a narrow blind alley and there I see the owner from a short distance. I approach and I introduce myself.

Yes, finally I have the chance to meet James.  He is Chinese all right, he might have been a bit doubtful at first but as soon as I introduce myself I notice that he is willing to talk to me. I chat a bit with Mary who is busily working behind a bench and I ask why the doors and windows of such beautiful house are always kept closed.

“Whenever we attempt to open the door we find people in the house” James says.

“Brides want to take their photos here and we used to find them standing by the entrance or in the hall without even letting us know” James adds.

I ask James if I can have a look in the garden or take a photo from the upstairs porch, and he gladly asks me to follow him to the main entrance. It shows good taste, passion and labor of love. I am not going to get in details, but I just want to thank him if he reads this.

He was telling me that he has some trouble with the people of the village and that they have taken him to court because of the color of the house and with some additions he has here and there on the forefront of the building. It is ridiculous because the final result as it is now is unbelievably beautiful. Personally I believe that many are envious and might not want the couple here. I tell James that I can appear in the court if he asks me to because this case is very unfair.

I am not adding anything else, but let you enjoy the tour through my photos.

No matter how many times I come here I am NEVER disappointed. Each season the village looks different and it is as if I come to a familiar place each time but never the same!

What a lovely village, full of flowers and so scrupulously clean you could eat off the cobbles. I must admit the Chinese house is very exuberant with it's colours. I presume it's the blue and white house. It would probably look more at home in Macao! Still, it certainly brightens up the street scene.

It is a very beautiful village Popi. But why the prejudice? Or is it envy as you said. Anyway, I wholeheartedly agree with you that it is completely unfair to him. Great photos again!
