The Church of Virgin Mary of Evangelism
One of the Highlights of Vasa is the main Church of Virgin Mary of Evangelism. It stands out and it is the first place I visit upon reaching the village.
Just below this existing church there used to be the temple of Saint Varnava. Part of the heritage remains are saved until today and are found in the Ecclesiastical museum of the village. It has a gothic type with dome. (1896-1900)
The iconostasis is made from gypsum.
The top loft above the narthex is extended with balconies creating a semicircle, and the woodcut shrine was constructed in 1912 where the silver icon of the Virgin is being kept.
