A Wee Jaunt to Agios Demitrios, Marmari
Trip Start Sep 22, 2011

There are several smaller villages in the round area worth visiting and the owner of the Evia Hotel and Suites where we are staying was telling us that he arranges short day trips for his guests with no charge at all in the hotel's small lorry. Of course this takes place in summer. Guests have the chance to enjoy a half day trip to Paradissi and have lunch or dinner at one of the two tavernas in the village.
Some kilometers away he said there is the small village of Agios Dimitrios and he urged us to visit it as well.
So off we go. We pass Paradissi and thought why not move on to Agios Demitris village
The village of Agios Demitris is really small, yes we found some greenery on the way but truly it did not impress me.
We came to the village’s square and into a dead end. The two or three small café restaurants are all congested as if they have a common yard. The stand there as if to prohibit people from going further. We see many people walking slowly in the road wearing black clothes and by the time we get off the car these people are approaching the square. A lady I ask tells me that all are relatives and friends and they are coming to the square after the memorial service at the church that morning. They have lost a family member and they visited the cemetery earlier but are here for lunch.
So we got in the car and drove off back to the previous village since there is no road after this point. Of course there is another nice spot to visit leading to a beautiful coast but we don’t want to spend our time in the car driving. What we really want is to have lunch and return to the hotel.
