A Quality Restaurant with Exquisite Culinary Creations!

We spent 2 amazing nights at the St. George Boutigue Hotel in Athens where we had the chance to dine at the "Le Grand Balcon" one of the Signature and most popular Restaurants in Athens.

In the morning we had a rich American Breakfast out here and I have already commended about it on my hotel review.

The restaurant has an excellent location as it is on the 6th floor and on the slopes of the Lycabettus hill so the views from up here, no matter what time of day or night it is, are breathtaking. It has spacious balconies with the most spectacular view expanding all the way to the Saronic islands.

As it gets dark an extravaganza expands through the city …it is something like magic with all the lights shining brightly above the Attica sky with the Acropolis being the highlight of the entire City.

In reality, the whole 6th floor is a multifunctional spot operating as a Sophisticated Gourmet restaurant with exceptional dishes, a Dancing hall and occasionally a Conference centre.

I knew that it was popular but I never expected to see so many people. To be absolutely sure that you will find a table it is advisable to call the reception and book your table at least 3 or 4 days earlier. Have in mind that with the festive season you might need to consider booking even earlier. You see, it is a spot where celebrities and businessmen meet and it is indeed popular!

I have read times and again about Mr. Vasili Milios the executive and many times awarded chef of the restaurant but I had never before tried his cuisine. Many French celebrities visit the restaurant each year so I was curious indeed to taste his creations. You see, as a person who travels a lot because of my work I have learnt to appreciate good food. I consider my self a travel enthusiast and a good restaurant critic so I am here to rate the cuisine in a way.

The maitre de hotel Mr. Christos Fortetsanakis informed me that two of the signature dishes of the restaurant are the Couscous in a bitter almond sauce if I wished to have and the Tomato cream and froth of ouzo.

After some thought I decided to have the Art Menu for 32 euros to have the opportunity to taste several dishes with the wine included which I found to be a bargain counting the fame of the restaurant. I tried however one extra out of curiosity.

The menu started with fried olive and tomato soup-shot with oregano. The soup was colourful and so tasty –pity that it was just a shot!!

We had the Rocket and Valeriana salad with grapes, grilled manouri cheese sprinkled with aromatic vinegrette. It was not only tasty and colourful …it was like a piece of art!

The octopus dish was superb! It was amazingly delicious and one of those dishes you cannot easily forget. If I am not mistaken it was accompanied by fava from Santorini (broad bean puree and caramelized onions).

Just before the main course we had the Sorbet lemon to balance the taste.

I tried the “lavraki” with spinach out of curiosity and although I am not that fond of this fish yet I loved the idea of the spinach beside it. The ingredients and freshness of the dish made me consider cooking it at home as well. It was another amazing dish to consider.

My husband had the Organic chicken legs with fresh herbs with merlot wine sauce. It was simply yummy.

For dessert we had panacota and chocolate with ice cream.

In all, from the style and ambience of the elegant dining room, to the delivery of unparalleled service, dedication to detail makes the Le Grand Balcon experience one you will always cherish.

The same passion is applied to sourcing fine quality ingredients and in the design of exciting new twists to contemporary Mediterranean cuisine.
