The Old Bridge of Arta

It is the second day today after I returned from Cyprus, and we are on our way to visit some of the most beautiful spots in the northwest of Greece. We are on a 4 day trip with 38 friends along.

Arta is part of Epirus province, and is built on 7 hills. A city with rich history. The round area is full of orange and olive trees. In ancient times it was known as Ambracia, and the 13th century castle which is set on the highest point of the city is one of the best reserved in the country. The castle though is not included in our tour this time.

The old bridge over the Arachthos River is imposing and makes the city popular with many tourists visiting it the whole year round. So, instead of the castle we make a stop for an hour and for the first time in my life I am crossing it. It is obvious that a stop here is a must, and this is what we are doing here today.
