We are flying to Dubai by Emirates Airlines this afternoon.

We have to be at Venizelos Airport at least 2 hours before take off, but I want to be sure that everything is fine with all the weight we carry, so we decide to leave a bit earlier.

George, our son is driving us to the airport in his new car today. He has just bought it a couple of hours ago and he is very excited.

Thank God, everything is fine with the weight,- 2 huge suitcases weighing 30 kilos each - and I am happy to hear that we are going to get them when we reach Nairobi.  This is good news for us.

The two heavy suitcases that we carry are mostly filled with clothes for the people of Kenya. We are happy that we got rid of them, and we are now left with just 2 small handbags weighing 4 or 5 kilos each!!

The trip above the Greek islands and the view from the Airplane is awesome.  The coasts of Turkey are beautiful at first, but as we fly deeper and deeper in the heart of Turkey the view is not interesting at all.  Turkey is of Mountains, rocks, and sand.  We cannot even see the existence of any village or citie from above. Just bare mountains and hills. Rough landscape!

ARRIVING IN DUBAI

We reach Dubai by 9pm and we are driven by taxi to the hotel we booked. I chose a hotel at the Deira District which is centrally located and just opposite the hotel there is a huge Mall and a Supermarket. It is not that I am interested to buy anything particular, but I need to be sure that there is a place to go to  before flying to Kenya. We have to be at the Airport by 1pm.

The heat is unbelievable, and I am particularly happy that we are flying in the afternoon. I cannot stand walking in the streets for more than 5 or 10 minutes.

Now my impressions of Dubai…..well, not much to say actually.

I don't believe I can ever stand living in such a country.  There is much construction going on, - a not friendly place to be. No matter how awsome some buildings are, the place does not impress me at all.  In fact I am happy to leave, and happy that I have not booked spending another day in Dubai on the way back.

We have breakfast in the Mall opposite the hotel and do some window shopping before driven to the Air Terminal.

I can admit though that the Emirates Airport is awesome. I have never seen such a glamorousAirport in my life, and it is huge!!! (See photos)

I have been to Dubai, the city is too much a commercial place and very little a true life, so I concur with your comments on the city. But I enjoyed Desert Safari and visiting Ibne Batoota Mall overthere...
