The Island of Skyros - Sailing
Trip Start May 08, 2010
39Trip End Jan 23, 2011
I am so excited about our trip to Skyros, an island so very near where we live.
This is the 4th time I visit it but no matter how many times I come here I like it more and more. Every time I discover something else.
The residents of the island are mostly fishermen, stock- breeders and apiculturists. Lobster is one of the species that abide in the seas of Skyros. Many of my friends are crazy about a popular dish on this island and that is lobster and pasta, but it is really expensive and besides if I had all that money I would not spend it on Pasta
Skyros is inhabited by approximately 3.000 residents. It has a 23 mile distance from the island of Evia, and since we live in Evia we have to catch the 5 pm ferry today.
I hate packing as usual, but the thought of spending 3 days on this beautiful island and since Kimi is just an hour from where we live makes things easier for me.
Usually I hate ferries and I plan to work on my laptop while sailing towards the island. I have much work to do, but to my bad luck I find out that I have no internet connection. The fact that the trip is just an hour and 45 minutes though comforts me. (Count 2 hours till you finish with disembarkation).
Most of the passengers are on the first floor, and there is much noise so we get to the upper floor. Our tickets though are not business class so we cannot enter the upper Café…..as if I want to buy anything
3 of the 5 people are anxiously waiting to watch a series on TV. My goodness! How stupid can people get when they are so addictive on these stupid series. I have about 15 minutes of silence and ….oh my God! The moment this stupid series starts one of the girls takes the TV control and …..I need earplugs! I just watch them at first and then I ask her to lower the volume. I keep staring the reaching of the people watching, watch their eyes and movements and I want to bust out laughing loudly. The climax of stupidity!!
Time flies, and in 5 minutes we have to disembark. We all leave the room but one of the girls tells her fiancé that she will disembark last! She won't miss a second.
I am happy that we are not acquainted with such stupid people.
We get in the car, call the owner of the hotel who is expecting us and in just 3 minutes we arrive to the resort.
The resort is just 30 metres from the beautiful coast of Acherounes, and this bay is always calm, protected from the strong winds.
Have a look of the estate here: http://skyrosvillas.com/indexen.htm
The owner and creator of this small paradise Mr. Lefteris Trakos has worked miracles here. His passion is obvious through the whole estate. I was impressed in every step I had. Details that make every corner in the premises, unique.
It is already quite late so we leave the estate and head towards the capital for a light dinner. At the restaurant we make plans for a round trip of Skyros first thing in the morning, and I cannot wait for this.
