Our trip to Serres

We set off at about 8.30 am sharp and we have to cover a distance of almost 600 km.
I hate traveling by coach but I have to…..
We are about 56 friends, and the majority is visiting it for the first time, including me.

Most of the way is familiar to me, and I am looking forward to seeing what Serres has to offer to a tourist.  I have seen videos from places in the round area, and I am convinced that it will be another interesting trip.

We make one or two stops on the way, and we reach Serres late in the afternoon.

Luckily the hotel is fine, and the room spacious and clean. I am always anxious when others choose the hotel for me.  We have time to have a shower and rest for a while before getting out and do some sightseeing and have dinner.

The city has a University so the streets, cafes and bar restaurants are full of young people.  All these young people give life to the city.

There are many beautiful buildings, and I am impressed seeing so many shops.
A discount sign can be seen in almost every shop-window.  Because of the economic crisis, every shop owner makes offers, or discounts of more than 40 or 50%.  This is not good, and I pity the shop owners in Greece.

The city is famous for the 'Seraiki Bougatsa', and although I am not very fond of sweets I really want to taste one.
Of course like always, every time I am in a new place I want to taste the local cuisine.

We are out in the streets walking and taking photos, and somebody recommended a nice restaurant with local cuisine. I asked to find the best that makes Soutzoukia, and I found that they call them Soutzoukakia in Serres instead.

I am glad we found it, but the result was not what we expected.  We are brought burnt –soutzoukakia – and the ones who ordered them are disappointed! I am glad that I have ordered different salads instead of meat. I only tasted them!
I loved the baked and peeled aubergine in the oven, brought as a salad dish.
They pour oil and lemon, some garlic, salt and some parsley and it is so delicious!
Also Bouyiourti, which is cheese in the oven and tomatos and paprikas! Very delicious too.  (I love cheese)!

We don’t want to stay out late this first day because we are already tired, so we end the night with a –Bougatsa.  It is delicious, very fattening, and I am glad that I did not order a whole piece for myself.  I just tasted some pieces.  This is enough!

Looking forward for tomorrow’s excursion…….
