FLYING TO ROME ....videos
Trip Start Aug 15, 2003
56Trip End May 01, 2009
It's Thursday, and we are flying again.
I was supposed to be having lessons with my students today, but the feeling that I am traveling again, and I have no lessons, this made me feel even more excited.
This time I decided to book at Savoy Hotel. I was searching the Internet and found this hotel having a special offer.
It cost 186 euro per night, however if you stayed for a 3rd night, the one was free. Having in mind all the good memories we had at Savoy in Berlin, I did not hesitate at all and booked there.
Although the area was special, (walking Via Venteo) all the rest were disappointing!!
As always, unpacking and off we go out in the streets to get to know the area. I wanted so much to explore the nearby area. Luckily the Spanish Steps and Fontana di Trevi were minutes walk from the Hotel. Taking hundreds of pictures as always....to have as memories of what I see in every place we visit.
The first day was mostly to get to know the area, had dinner in a nice small restaurant......which proved to be quite expensive (20 euro for a small plate of vegetables)
If you take a 2 or 3 days off work to visit a nearby European capital, the sight seeing coach is a must. We had that for 2 whole days and spotted the most interesting places. Then we had the chance to go another round but this time get off and see in detail whatever we thought it was worth visiting.
I am quite surprised seeing very small shops and boutiques ....but unfortunately empty. No people and customers.
And a pair of leather boots which I cannot believe why they have them sold for just 75 euro!!! I am curious and ask. The owner tells me that the real price is 175, but they have some models as an offer every 2 or 3 days. I am still surprised, and I go on asking as I cannot believe it. " Yes every 3 or 4 days we have special offers for every single item"
For travelers who want to check on that shop....well it is the one just opposite Fontana di Trevi.
Some of the places of interest was the Piazza del Campidoglio, Plazza Venezia, Basilica di San Marco,
Colosseo, The National Museum, Basilica di San Pietro, Piazza di Spana, Fontana di Trevi.
Don't leave without tasting those lovely ice creams, with all sorts of flavors. Romans say that there are more than 1001 gelaterias selling the best gelatos in Rome.
And buy a bottle of Lemonchelo, their typical liqueur, either plain or with a combination of milk. (I preferred the second one).
The trip unforgettable ....looking forward for the next one to come really soon!!
