VISITING GREVENA

The city of Grevena is in the Northern part of Greece
about 400 km from Athens, and 180 km from Thessaloniki.

We have some very nice relatives here, and we are invited to spend 3 days with them.
They have arranged for our hotel, and we are happy to see them after so much time. Two talented kids are the centre of attention, (Aphrodite, and Dimitry) and want very badly to show us their talent on their first lessons in guitar playing.

We have much to say, and among other things we arrange an excursion for the following morning.
We want to visit the National Park of PINDOS mountains, called VALIA GALDA

The trip to VALIA GALDA
=====================
Many wild animals find refuge in this wild Forest Park, away from the fear of man. Mamals like bears, wild cats, deer, and wild goats.

Over 415 types of plants are found here, and in the highest areas (1600m - 1900m. one type of tree capable of withstanding the cold temperature grows here, and this is the BALCAN PINE which could be considered a living monument of nature.

Small streams and the existence of many small lakes are a characteristic of the Pindos forestry. Many species are protected here, and there are about 86 species of mushrooms found in this area.

We are all very excited, because the beauty is obvious. I take as many photos as I can, and we stop every now and then to look for mushrooms. We did find different types, but we did not pick any.

It was late in the afternoon actually that we had lunch.
The trip was long but exciting. We ended up tasting tradition dishes one of which - wild pig - home made sausages, Greek salad and fine red wine.
