It is the 18th of September, schools have already started, but I have the tickets I bought 5 months ago for Palermo. (Luckily, I have given the lessons, so I leave my students behind telling them to enjoy a long weekend...and we fly from Athens to Milan.

We have to catch the plane from Milan to Palermo though, which leaves one and a half hours after our arrival. I am a bit anxious, as on a previous trip to Milan we had a great delay waiting for our suitcases to come....more than an hour to get the luggage!!

I have already done some studying as always, learning about the culture, the people, things that a traveler should know. I had heard about terrible things happening there and we were a bit scared. Things like the taxi drivers who will have you going round and round pretending that they don't know the street, about pick pocketing, and walking alone in the streets in the evening.

This time, I decided to book a hotel Apartment. I booked at Aragona. The apartment was great inside, for just 75 euro, however to get the key and use the kitchen we had to pay 25 extra. We decided not to bother as it was not worth it.
We had breakfast at the hotel which was ok, and we could always have something for lunch outside, and dinner at night without paying lots of money. The hotel was centrally located.....I did a lot of studying and I did not want to go there by taxi. I wanted to use the bus from the very beginning.

It would have been easier if the local people could speak some English. They were helpful, however they could not guide you hundred per cent!!!! You could not rely on what they were telling you. The same with the receptionist.
This was a great disappointment I can admit.

We were exhausted after the trip from Athens to Milan, and then Milan to Palermo....so seeing that we are near but we could not spot the hotel we decided to get a taxi.
The driver said in the beginning that he knew exactly where it was. A few seconds later we found ourselves going round and round the same streets, - he even asked for help from a policeman but he could not help at all -. We had to pay 20 euro believe it or not for just 10 steps further....!!! Luckily that was the first and almost last disappointment we had. Now that I remember, I think of that morning when we asked the receptionist to tell us where to find the street with the vendors who sell old things like antiques, small items, records, books, etc.
She sent us to the other end of the city where they were selling WARDROBES, and furniture........ but luckily on the way back as soon as my husband got in the bus to go back to the hotel, I accidentally found it in front of me, and it was a happy surprise.

Palermo is really beautiful. Worth spending at least 4 or 5 nights. We enjoyed the touring around, and then we could walk everywhere. I love walking anyway!!!
Many shops with shoes....the majority . Good leather and top quality for little money!!!

Then what we enjoyed were those lovely picturesque narrow streets with all those restaurants selling different dishes ......I love vegetables mostly. You could fill up a big plate for just 10 euro. With 20, you could fill it as many times as you liked.

The area where the apartment was, was very near a vegetable market and I loved going there to buy the most delicious fresh prunes I had ever tasted in my life!!!!

We wanted to have one or two day trips....but we found everything so expensive. We decided to return to Sicily very soon, but visit the north side this time.
We loved every moment of this trip, and for days I was having the same feeling like the one I had when I left SANTORINI ISLAND.
Promised ourselves to return soon!!!!
