Show trip route
This time I go all by myself to stay over the night at mum''s house,
and early in the morning meet the rest of the choir who are
coming from Chalkida -Greece, to participate in a music
festival in Paralimni.
I had a night out with my loving sister...and went to a nice
Chinese Restaurant for dinner in Larnaca-Dekelia Road.
We had much to catch on, and we were happily chatting and
laughing most of the time. We ordered a nice bottle of white
wine, and we were enjoying our dinner...
The atmosphere was nice, and although there were other
people around, we felt as if every piece of music played was
dedicated to us. It was as if we were requesting one piece of
music after the other, and it was there for us to enjoy.
We could not believe our ears....and we had missed all those
pieces. We returned home just a little before midnight having
a hell of a time. We remembered old times when we were
young at school, and the songs brought us good memories.
Then the next day, I took a taxi for the airport. It was raining
cats and dogs, but eveyone had a nice smile on his face - Cyprus
needs this water!!!
The plane arrive on time, but the passengers had to wait for 45 '
in the plane because of the heavy rain
A big coach was waiting outside to drive the members of the
choir to Paralimni, and when I saw these people holding
a piece of paper with the words " CHOIR " I explained that
I was there to join the rest of the choir, and that I had come
a day earlier to see my family.
Well Protaras is a must for everyone who visits the Island.
It is about 45 minutes by coach from Larnaca airport, and
you can find beaches similar to the Carribean.
If you are in Europe but of Low Badget and want to enjoy
lazing around on an exotic beach with crystal clear turquoise colour,
then grab the opportunity and visit Cyprus!
(Most of the times I do that too) There is no need to travel for
so many hours to reach Varadero in Cuba for instance, if you have
the opportunity to book a nice hotel and spend it in
the Mediterranean Sea !
Agia Napa is very close to Protaras, and it also has nice
beaches, but it is mostly preferable by younger ages. ....not that if
a family goes there, they won't have nice holidays!!!
There are beautiful restaurants, cafes, pubs, and Hotels in the
whole area. The town is called Paralimni, and we had been
invited by the Mayor of Paralimni to participate in a Choir
Festival. (The Mayor himself is a hard worker...and the whole
choir was stunned by his education. Many thought of him
as a living computer!!! He has done so many things to the
city himself, and he is respected by all.
During our stay we were offered the best hospitality ever.
experience they had.....some of the people travelling for the
first time to Cyprus.
The people of the choir of Paralimni were so kind and helpful
to everyone of us..... and me as a Cyriot felt proud for this
warm wellcome we received from these people. The president
Mr. Stavros Stavrou is the heart of the choir.
After the Festival we were taken to a nice restaurant with both
Greek and Cypriot music, with traditional dances, and the very
next morning we were given a tour.
I myself had the chance to see many of the sights that on previous
trips with my husband could not have, and the reason is because
in Cyprus they drive on the right side, while in Greece on the
left, so it is a bit risky to attempt and rent a car
The next day the group was driven to the capital of Cyprus,
Nicosia and were taken to the centre of the town....something
like Plaka (we have in Athens) where many members had the
chance to do some shopping and see the Green line that
seperates the Cypriots from the Turks at Lidra's Street.
On that day, I stayed with some friends behind because I did not
want to leave Protaras and go to Nicosia. I purposely stayed
back as I wanted to have a stroll and get to know the place
better ....for future trips.
Once again I realized that this is indeed such a beautiful place
for holidays. These waters make the difference. The white
sand, and the calmliness of the sea
blue...it's light crystal turquoise!!! You won't find similar
beaches on any other part of the island.
I visited the zoo, - but felt sorry for those poor crocodiles
lying desperately in the sun. I pitied them! I wish I could do
something for them....There is a nice aquarium too in Paralimni
worth to be visited. Don't miss it if you are there.
Another nice spot is the very Old Church in the centre of
the city just where the buses stop. It 's worth visiting as well!!
The port is also a nice spot to be visited with restaurants and
vendors selling their goods everywhere.
The smell of Kalamari, and fresh fish on the grill is everywhere.
Octapus hanging outside the restaurants....waiting for tourists
to enjoy the Cypriot OUZO or Wine.
There is also another alternative of something stronger to
drink....this is Zivania, and I guess the best one is ZIVANA.
Ask for it from the supermarkets there !!!
When the time came to leave our friends behind everyone was
so sad. I had the chance to meed nice people, and see my
favourite place once more....till next time.
Again, I need to express our thanks to the sponsors of this
trip - the Mayor and the President of the Choir of Paralimni,
on behalf of every member of the choir.
