Ok - so we spent three weeks driving around Spain in our Kia Rio. This diesel-fitted Kia has been a real luxury for us. I hadn't driven a car with more than 1 liter, or tires bigger than 12 inches since we left the old bruisin' blazer behind in Broadus. This high-end Kia sedan has 2 liters, goes 160 kilometers per hour and fits us and our luggage in opulent surroundings. We were sad to see her go, but alas, all good things come to an end.
I sense this was just pure fortune and we have more Fiats in the future.
Anyway, we got home and needed some dang R&R before loading up the camping gear again. We spent the week in Cap d'Ail swimming - with an obligatory dip in the still-chilly Med around the apartment. Our beach is called Plage Mala. It's nice and always has lots of topless old ladies. It's about 300 steps below our apartment building. It's also the start of the path that goes along the sea called the Sentier Littoral - which I think is French for long walk. This is also our path to Monte Carlo and groceries when we don't ride the bus.
Oh, and we like to eat here. There is a bakery on the hill, the Ribereau something or other, that has fresh baguettes from morning to night. And they also make a darn good pain au raisin, which is a little swirly bread with raisins and sugar. We are currently trying to eat all of their stock in these before we leave. Still, even though we bleed money at the bakery each day - the ladies behind the counter can give only the stingiest French grimace when we walk in. "Bonjour, what do you want ridiculous americain? More bread to fuel your wars and your stupid accents?"
But hey - we're still better. The young one puts on lots of makeup that looks like she applied it the night before and then tried all night to rub it off on something. The older one is not as pretty as that. Their bread is perfect though so we go back each day.
We are also plotting our next trip - Greece. We settled on a departure plan from Venice and bought tickets on the Internet at Pizza Pino in Monaco.
(S) Yes. Get me out of France!! But it has been nice to just relax and cook good food at our little apartment. Chad's risotto and onion soup are like crack.
