(S) Even in the middle of Tuscan paradise, there came days when we were just about ready to drive each other crazy. This was one of those days. As it was one of our last in Firenze, I decided to explore the city on my own and we made plans to meet at the Piazzale Michelangelo at 5 pm. Chad had never been to this plaza and it had been 11 years since I went there with my high school girlfriends. We were looking forward to both the day on our own AND meeting at a new place.

After walking through my favorite square - Santa Croce - and taking some photos of the city, I made my way across the Arno River and stopped in at a small market in the Oltrarno (which means beyond the Arno - or across the river) for some snacks and of course some delicious Moretti beer - Italy's best. I climbed the hill to the piazza and walked around the souvenir vendors and tourists.

Chad joined me and after a full day on my own, I was actually excited to see him! He had picked up picnic fare as well. We had a great picnic, while watching the sun set over Florence.

(C) This was romance served in a tiny plastic cooler.  I didn't even know if you would be there.  The meeting time was, with all due patience expected, "five o'clock if you're going to show up.  I'm leaving at 5:30."  I was there at 5pm with a bottle of some country chianti I picked up at a shop between Santa Croce and the Piazza della Signoria.  Along with some bread, cheese and pepperoni, we had a feast on the steps and made all the other tourists super jealous who had come on buses and didn't plan with such Florentine spontenaiety.
