(S) Are we nuts? No, seriously. Maybe we should have just gone on the wine tour of the Loire and Piedmont as we had originally planned. But, noooooo. Let's do something hard, I say. Let's go somewhere far and exotic. Let's go to India. Ok, let's go to India!

Did I mention May is the hottest month of the year in India? Like 106 in Delhi the day we arrive hot. Did I also forget to mention we had to get vaccinations for polio and typhoid? TYPHOID! It made me sick, but I guess the upset stomach is way better than actually getting typhoid. And we have anti-malarial medication to take every day. But be careful of rabies. The travel clinic doctor was very helpful on this point. Her quote: If you get rabies you will have to get airlifted out. What?! Ya, let's buy those tickets.

All the joking aside, we are ridiculously excited for India. Two weeks is barely enough time to get our feet wet. I mean, come on, this country is huge! But we will give it our best shot. We have had to cut out tons of things we wanted to see (Hampi, Goa, Varanasi, the Himalayas), but we are still going to
see lots. You've heard of the Taj Mahal, I presume. Oh, and we're not camping. Big sigh from the mom types. We are staying in actual hotels (or havelis and maybe a fort if we can sneak it in) the entire time and even have two booked already. This is already miles ahead of our usual excursions.

So, we pack up to leave on another great escape, leaving our home and beloved mutt in the capable hands of a sweet woman from Idaho.

Let's see what tomorrow brings, as this Montana Indian travels to India...

Mary on

I am SO EXCITED about India! You're my favorite travel writers, bar none, and I've been waiting a long time for THIS trip's narrative.

Remember to take pictures of the food, please. And your rooms. And the rain. Because we all know that where the Calverts travel, there's rain. :)

Bon voyage!
