I awoke to the sound of truck engines firing up. Not one by one. They all seemed to be leaving at once! I pulled myself out the sleeping bag and started to pack as fast as I could. Not fast enough. By the time I was ready everyone was gone. The day was still cool as the sun rose above the mountains and I figured I may as well walk.

Nothing can really decribe the helplessnes I had felt that walking along the country road, not knowing if and when anyone would stop. With 60k to the border and no sign of civilisation it could still take days. Eventually someone did stop. I think he sensed my relief as I clambered on board. No English but we were abble to communicate. He pulled out his radio and said something in Polish. He pulled up in the next town and told me to wait. a minute later another truck stopped. He had radioed in for help! Lift by lift these truckies now started helping me get to the border. the next one spoke English and talked about his export business in Ireland. 'English people have been good to me' he said, 'so I want to be good to you.'

By midday I was just a few kilometers from the border. Perhaps I would be in Prague for Lunch?! Alas not. By midday I was at the border but I had walked, and even though I was positioned where passport control would have been in years gone by (now open borders) in a spot where cars had to slow down, not a soul was stopping. -even when I did Michael Jackson dancing in the road.

'There is a train station in the town' said a woman in the border cafe. My 'seven' hour journey had now taken the most part of two days. I had made it to the border and I was now ready to do the sensible thing. For a very cheap price I bought a ticket to Prague and a couple of hours later I was there.

Prague was good. Touristy stuff that at this point I unfortunately dont remember as vividly and then an overnight coach back to the overcast UK. I guess its those crazy moments when you don't know if you will be walking for a week that really make a memorable adventure.

Thank you for reading. And in rainbow spirit peace and love
