Swaziland is a very small country, sandwiched btween SA and Mozambique. It also has one the highest rates of HIV prevalence in the world (approx 33% of the population have it). This was driven home by the safe sex advertising, which was everywhere. A year long ban on polygamous sex for young men was just ended (presumably the kings case was weakended after he took his ninth wife).
One grimly sign proclaimed "All sex that leads to hell is unsafe".
Regardless, you'd be hard pressed to tell from meeting the people. Swaziland itself was wonderful, and the people were extremely welcoming. We stayed in a wildife reserve at the base of a valley. Local women cooked a great meal of chicken and bean stew, which I wolfed before collapsing. The atmosphere (friendly, laid back, happy) was a blessed relief after the brittle tension of Jo'burg.
