Where I stayed

Our mad train hop north has brought us to what feels like a different world. Gone are the cheap private rooms, dodgy buses and sun drenched beaches.  Instead there's fjords, €40 beds in dorm rooms, literally Baltic water, luxurious trains and hostels with rule lists covering at least 2 pages.

We’ve been capital hopping through Scandinavia stopping in Copenhagen, Stockholm and Oslo.  Lowpoint has been that we’ve had to share our first dorm room.  Ugh ugh ugh.  We’re too old and too married for this!  Highlights have been the archipelago in Stockholm which was absolutely stunning, the hippy commune Christiania in Copenhagen for pure amusement value (sorry – no photos allowed), staying on a boat in Stockholm looking out over the old town and Eurovision mania in Oslo (gutted Lithuania didn’t make it through to the Finals).  As we’re getting towards summer solstice there’s also barely any darkness which is really hard to get used to.  We’ve invested in two very fetching eye masks to try to get some sleep!

I thought it was only when you hit your 50s you were too old for hostels! Oh well, I guess it's a long time since I stayed in one! Love reading about your adventures. Jacky
