From Naples we caught a slow train to Bari which was punctuated by an unexpected section on a bus (glad we decided to get the early train!). We arrived in good time for the ferry but didn't see much of our departure or arrival from deck because we were busy defending the sofa we had found in the lounge from the busloads of Eastern European school children.

We then arrived by bus in Ioannina, a pleasant town by a big lake, intending to hire a car and head on out into the mountains. However, we had forgotten that it was Sunday morning which meant there was no chance of getting a car, or doing much else until the next day. "When in Rome" we thought and settled in at one of the lakeside cafes with thousands of locals for the afternoon (every single one of whom were supping iced coffee......)
