Passports have arrived, bags are (just about) packed and after our final goodbyes we're actually finally off! Bring on the first night train to Nice.  We’re hoping that as we trundle through the night in a French couchette it will finally sink in that we’re off travelling for so long having been harping on about it for so long.

Except that true to all stereotypes when we get to Gare d’Austerlitz, SNCF are on strike and the trains are going nowhere.  There are some couchettes set up for us to sleep in so we spend the first night of the trip in Austerlitz instead.   Glamorous.

Early the next day we fight our way on to a TGV to Nice and after an afternoon ambling round Nice we hop along the coast to the Italian Riviera where of course we go for pizza for dinner.

I bet you're glad you're traveling overland for a while! Looking forward to hearing where you are now. xx

Did you have a premonition about the impending travel chaos when you decided to travel to china by land?! I will be having my own little round europe by land trip when I attempt to make it back to london from Prague on the bus!

Hope you're having a fab time and the realisation that this is not just a holiday is starting to sink in.

looking forward to next blog entry.

We thought we did famously in our early married life hitch hiking all over Europe after WW11.
But the world is quite another 'kettle of fish' to say the least so we say go for
it and have fun together.
We are particularly looking forward to hearing your report on Mongolia and
the Gobi Desert.
