Today we took a cab for Bangkok's "Chinatown" which is about 1 hour drive from our hotel (based on the traffic). I know we all think Washington's has bad traffic, but I think this is much worst! Only positive thing to it is somehow, and I do not understand how, the cost of a taxi is very cheap! Our 1 hour ride was about $6 with tip and this was based on a meter running the whole time. I need to find out how much they are paying for gas!

Gleaming with gold shops, large neon signs with Chinese characters on them, shopfronts spilling out on the sidewalk and people-----welcome to Chinatown-Bangkok style! It was a madhouse with shoppers and workers moving around on motor bikes bring goods down the little walkways. Many of the goods that we see in our stores back home were here being sold wholesale. People purchasing orders for 10 thousand this and 20 thousand of that. Ladies if you like shoes this is the place, I have never seen so many different kinds in one location.

As you can see from the pictures there was a lot of action going on with the street vendors selling & cooking all kinds of food. Many we had no idea what it was that they were cooking or what kind of animal it can from! The local McDonald's has a big Ronald McDonald (I made Darcy stand by it) and give a "traditional Thai greeting" called a Wai. Thais greet each other with this prayer-like-palms-together gesture.

In the center of Chinatown is an old Temple from the 1800's, which was closed so I could only get pictures from the outside. The colors and the design was very interesting.
