After the ranch, we went back to Asuncion to spend sometime over New Year's week.  The downtown area has a very "old colonial" feel to it (as you can see from the pictures).  We meet two guys (top middle photo) who's father (he is sick-so the boys took over) owns one of the oldest restaurants in downtown. The food and service was great. The boys grew-up in Miami and would come back to Paraguay for the summers and Christmas. One lives near the restaurant, the other is going to school at American University in Washington DC. So we came all the way to Paraguay to meet a guy who lives down the street from us!

They asked us if we were interested in going with them to visit a man who is a silversmith in the next town.  He is known throughout the country for making silver crosses for the Pope! That's right the Pope! You can see a picture on this wall of the Pope. We watched him make some items first hand.  He is a skilled craftsman. Darcy purchased some things for herself and my daughter.
